FMUC professor awarded by the Harvard Medical School

Ana Messias, professor of dentistry at the Faculty of Medicine, University of Coimbra (FMUC), won the 1st Prize in the Portugal Clinical Scholars Research Training Program (PTCSRT) by the Harvard Medical School.

The awarded work, entitled “Peri-implant marginal bone loss reduction with platform switching components: 5-year post-loading results of an equivalence randomized clinical trial”, is part of the research carried out by the professor at the Faculty of Medicine of UC and at the Faculties of Medicine of Mainz and Keil, Germany.

The aim of the research was to “assess the clinical impact of using innovative prosthetic components in reducing bone resorption around dental implants and provided confirmation of its positive and superior effect when compared to traditional components under the conditions of this study”.

The award was presented during the graduation ceremony of the 2016/2018 PTCSRT course by the Harvard Medical School, in collaboration with the Foundation for Science and Technology.
