The data presented in the study “Números da Ordem 2025” reveal a paradoxical reality: Portugal has a high density of dentists yet continues to see many professionals leaving the country. The emigration of more than half of professionals with suspended registration reveals not only market dynamics, but also the need to reflect on working conditions, career opportunities, and territorial balance in the provision of care.

In this context, the political debate around the creation of a dentistry career within the National Health Service gains particular relevance. The proposal submitted to Parliament represents an important step towards the institutional recognition of oral health as an integral part of healthcare, and towards the appreciation of the role of dentists within the public system.

Throughout these pages, we also highlight the scientific vitality of the profession: international congresses, technological innovation in implantology, new academic collaborations and the growing role of Portugal in the European dentistry landscape. These are clear signs of a dynamic sector, capable of innovating, conducting research and training highly qualified professionals.

Enjoy your reading.

DentalPro magazine issue 188, featuring on its cover Gustavo Castro and Zsolt Kovacs, from Manuel Neves clinic, is now available for online reading.

[22
