“All they talk about is teeth.”, “they only think about mouths”, “they’re always saying the same.”<\/p>\n
Ah, ah.<\/p>\n
My ironic laughter is still genuine, although spent and with traces of boredom.<\/p>\n
It’s easy to point fingers at the dentist. The dentist is not seen as a “real doctor” – or he would be more respected in his professional descriptive wanderings – nor as a technician – or he would be joined by reactions of wonder and curiosity – nor philosopher, or he would be heard and appreciated, yet still misunderstood, just the same.<\/p>\n
So, the dentist is often seen as a geek who, given the hours he dedicates to what he does (since he is a freelancer, oh, oh, what delight), falls in love, and gets enthusiastic about the daily challenges and shares them with the others, with no other effect on them, than that of being super-boring, with limited ambition and intellect.<\/p>\n
At a dentists’ social meeting, you hear them describe techniques, materials, patients, typical and atypical cases, true. Because this field is for crazy people. Ah, ah. That’s right. Those who aren’t\u00a0crazy about dental medicine give up, or become extinct. Like that, naturally, like Darwinian survival.<\/p>\n
To spend 8 to 12 hours a day looking at a wet hole of 4cm by 4cm, gazing and working in 2mm2 areas is not for everyone, managing daily coffees (so as not to tremble), going to the bathroom (so as not to interrupt consultations), meals (so as not to delay appointments) the back aches (so as not to look weak), trying to reconcile in each appointment the form, colour, texture, beauty, biology and biomechanic, while controlling savage tongues, devilish coughs, gastric-esophageal spasms, rolling of eyes, raising of fists to countdown the time left on the watch, breathing complications and more, not to mention all the other little naggings. (Ah, ah).<\/p>\n
And yet, we still love what we do, even when we hate some of its moments.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
