Portuguese dentist Susana Falardo Ramos has just been appointed vice-president of the scientific committee of the American Academy of Dental Sleep Medicine (AADSM). The appointment took place at the beginning of April and the inauguration will be between the 18th and 21st of May, during the annual AADSM conference in Philadelphia.

The AADSM, founded in 1991, is a North American non-governmental organisation dedicated exclusively to the practice of dental sleep medicine. Its members are dental practitioners who are dedicated to the diagnosis and treatment of breathing abnormalities in people with sleep disorders, some of which include: obstructive sleep apnoea; hypopnoea syndrome; snoring disorders and people with mandibular advancement devices.

AADSM is currently the largest and most prestigious Dental Sleep Medicine Academy in the world. With over 3,000 members, its main goal is to promote the important role of the dental practitioner in the treatment of people who suffer from sleep disorders that effect their breathing; they aim to achieve this through academic education, the establishment of clinical practice guidelines, multidisciplinary collaboration and public relations and health.
