A multidisciplinary team from the Institute of Research and Innovation at the University of Porto (also known as i3S) and from the Faculties of Science, Technology and Medicine at the University of Coimbra developed a new technology based on a natural organic molecule, which prevents the formation of bacterial plaque.
This project, called Biolocker, was the only Portuguese winner of the third edition of the Caixa Impulse Programme, worth 70 thousand euros.
Biolocker, whose experimental work was partially developed in i3S by researchers Tiago Santos and Cláudia Monteiro in Cristina Martins’ laboratory, is currently in the process of registering an international patent and should reach the market within two years.
