The OMD (Portuguese Association of Dentists) suspends elections scheduled for June

João Caramês, president of the General Assembly and inherently president of the Electoral Commission, sent a video message to all dentists regarding the suspension of the elections that were scheduled for June.

“In a few days, the way we work, how we interact, how we behave at all times in our daily social life, has been drastically changed. Much of what we took for granted in our normal way of life have become potentially risky acts for our health and for the health of the community around us.

The OMD and its governing bodies are not oblivious to this exceptional change in circumstances, compared to February when the electoral process was opened under the Electoral Regulations.

At that time, at the proposal of the OMD’s president, as prescribed by the regulations, I decided to schedule the elections of the new governing bodies for June 6th, given that the Statutes and Electoral Regulations specify the list of candidates for the various bodies by May 1st.

Faced with the current extraordinary situation we’re currently living, we all understand the impracticability of maintaining these dates, in particular the presentation of the candidate list, as well as the elections’ date.
