Orlando Monteiro da Silva will not run again for presidency

The president of the Portuguese Dentist Association (OMD), Orlando Monteiro da Silva, announced yesterday that he will not stand again in the next elections. The decision follows the announcement of the postponement of the election previously scheduled for June, now set for the 12thof September.

The president said: “I want to inform everyone that I will continue with my teams until the 12thof September and the inauguration of the government bodies to be elected. I will continue to lend all my experience and accumulated knowledge from over 20 years at national and international level, to help the profession and the dentists overcome this difficult period. As, in fact, I always have done. And the best service I can do at this stage is to be completely focused on my work and carry out the duties as the Association’s president until that date”.

In addition to exalting the high civic spirit from the overwhelming majority of dentists, Orlando Monteiro da Silva adds: “ I cannot help but highlight the role played up to this point by the governing bodies and working groups, and at another level, the staff of the Association, its employees who are attentive day and night, in person or at home, far beyond their duty. Yes, we all have a business, a profession, a class affected by the pandemic, but we are all targeted, focused, and ready to resume business when it is deemed possible, safe, and adequate.
