The Portuguese Dental Association “deeply regrets the loss of the professor who was awarded the OMD Gold Medal in 2018, during the celebrations of the 20th anniversary of this professional public association, in the Portuguese Parliament”.
“António Felino dedicated a large part of his career to dentistry and academic life and was one of the great driving forces behind the organization of dentists as a professional class,” reads the OMD statement.
The dentist was a Professor at the Faculty of Dental Medicine at the University of Porto, where he was also Assistant Director. He also stood out for being the first dentist to chair the Scientific Council of a Faculty of Dental Medicine at Portuguese Universities and a member of the General Council of the University of Porto. He was also a specialist in Oral Surgery by the European Federation of Oral Surgery Societies (EFOSS) and in Implantology by the European Association of Dental Implantologists (BDIZ EDI).
The president of the OMD, Miguel Pavão, recalls the “contribution of Professor António Felino to the affirmation and projection of dentists, for his availability and commitment to the profession, having marked several generations”. “The profession is in mourning, and this is a loss for everyone,” he said.
António Felino’s memorial service took place at Igreja da Lapa, in Porto, on the 9th of January, and the funeral on 10th of January, at 3 pm, in the same place.
The seventh mass will take place this Tuesday, 14th of January, at 3 pm, in the same church.
