The project has carried out more than 100,000 dental treatments at the Braga Oral Health Support Center (C.A.S.O. Braga).
The C.A.S.O. Braga is funded by Braga City Council, an innovative municipality in the integration of oral health as a public measure. “It is with great pride and pleasure that we see the enormous impact of the ‘Braga A Sorrir’ program on the population of Braga,” says Ricardo Rio, Mayor of Braga.
With 5 social clinics, the success of “Braga A Sorrir” led to the replication of this project model in the municipalities of Cascais and Lisbon. As well as dental treatment, the project offers psychosocial consultations and has its own dental prosthesis laboratory. This integrated approach promotes well-being, quality of life, self-esteem and professional reintegration, helping to break cycles of poverty.
“We have already delivered more than 3,200 dental prostheses to citizens living in Braga, thanks to the municipality’s continued support. This complementary response to the National Health Service (SNS) makes it possible to overcome some of the limitations of health centers, promoting improved health and quality of life for citizens,” explains Elsa Antunes, the project’s coordinator.
