Dentists’ Union will launch a Psychological Support Office in July

The Union of Dentists (SMD) will launch, starting in July, a Psychological Support Office for its members. The initiative arises as a response to “the growing emotional strain and the need for psychological support identified among dental professionals”.

According to the SMD (Union of Medical Professionals), the profession is “associated with high levels of stress, technical demands, and accumulated burnout, factors that can significantly affect the well-being of professionals.” In this context, the union considers it “essential to strengthen measures to support the mental health of the profession.”

The new office will operate completely free of charge and confidentially, providing support, guidance, and a space for active listening for all members who need psychological assistance.

For the SMD (Portuguese Dental Association), mental health should not be seen as a taboo, especially in a profession dedicated daily to the care and well-being of patients. The organization emphasizes that the goal is “to ensure that no dentist faces moments of greater vulnerability alone.”

Those interested in obtaining more information about how the Psychological Support Office works, scheduling appointments, or clarifying doubts can contact the union directly.
