EAO Congress Lisbon brought together 3,300 delegates from around the world

From 24 to 26 September 2026, Lisbon was the centre of world implantology. The Portuguese capital hosted the 33rd annual congress of the European Association for Osseointegration (EAO), which brought together 3,300 delegates from around the world.

Under the theme “Delivering Health and Predictability: Shaping the Future of Patient Care”, the meeting, organised in partnership with the Brazilian Society of Periodontology and Implants (SOBRAPI), spanned three days of plenary and parallel sessions. More than 100 leading speakers from 20 countries discussed innovative approaches to promoting health and ensuring predictability in clinical practice. Beyond the scientific content, the congress was also a place to meet and connect. The social and networking events, as well as the opportunities to interact with speakers and exhibitors, allowed delegates to share experiences and foster new professional connections.

Less experienced professionals had a prominent place in the hands-on workshop “My first implant”, organised by the EAO junior committee. Guided by experts, participants deepened their knowledge of the biological foundations, clinical protocols and prosthetic strategies, while trying out different implant systems. Recognition of excellence in scientific research is also an essential part of the congress. Dedicated sessions allowed the authors of the top-ranked abstracts to present their work to an international audience, and a clinical video competition was also held.

During the general assembly, Irena Sailer, from Switzerland, took office as the 24th president of the EAO, succeeding Portugal’s Gil Alcoforado, who had held the post until then. The DentalPro team walked the halls of the Lisbon Congress Centre, where it had the opportunity to speak with Helena Francisco, chair of the organising committee for this edition.
