Oral tumours are the sixth more common type of cancer in Portugal. However, it is still frequently forgotten and few Portuguese know that, similarly to breast cancer, there is also a self-exam that can help identifying lesions in due time.
Regular visits to the dentist and be alert for the symptoms are habits that can make the difference, states João Braga, dentist. “In any visit to a dentist, your mouth and all its parts will be visually inspected, allows any suspicious lesions to be detected in early stage” he explains.
He also adds that in these visits, it is possible to examine, identify and treat potentially malignant growth, teach the patient how to perform the self-exam.
