SMD meets with IGAS

On the agenda, topics such as the Inspection Guide were discussed, with SMD’s ‘agreement’ to ‘collaborate on items that, in our opinion, are ambiguous, not feasible, or not suitable for the reality of small and medium-sized clinics,’ the union states.

The meeting also resulted in raising awareness within SMD about ‘the increase in illegal situations involving the usurpation of functions, particularly in aesthetic centers, harmonizations, and bleaching, as well as in prosthetic laboratories.’

Union leaders ‘denounced the illegal contractual situation and working conditions of colleagues in the National Health Service (SNS),’ a reality that, according to SMD, was received with admiration by IGAS, ensuring that it would ‘address and intervene in the problem, jointly with the Executive Board of the SNS.’

Following the recent amendment to law no. 108/2018, the union emphasized that ‘despite the substantial improvements achieved,’ it expressed ‘some concerns that still persist’ in the field of radiological protection, an area whose competencies were transferred from IGAMAOT to IGAS. In this context, SMD ‘welcomed’ IGAS’s ‘awareness’ of the ‘importance that inspections have a perspective where recommendations are given precedence, thus privileging the more pedagogical aspect.’

In the working meeting, the union was represented by João Neto, president of SMD, António Colaço, president of the General Assembly, and representing IGAS, Carlos Caeiro Carapeto, Inspector General, and Rute Serra, Deputy Inspector General.
