International Award honors orthodontist Lucete Fernandes Færøvig

At the heart of this distinction lies the research developed by Færøvig over more than two decades, focused on patient-centered evaluation and the improvement of clinical outcomes in orthodontics.

The awarded study is a multicenter randomized clinical trial comparing two surgical approaches — the closed technique versus the open technique — for the exposure of palatally impacted canines. The results make a significant contribution to evidence-based clinical practice, reinforcing the importance of patient-centered therapeutic decision-making.

The award acknowledges not only Lucete Fernandes Færøvig’s solid academic career — which includes a degree in Dental Medicine from the University of Lisbon and a specialization in Orthodontics from the University of Oslo — but also her continuous contribution to international clinical research, with publications in leading journals and participation in globally relevant scientific conferences.

The Dewel Award will be presented during the annual meeting of the AJO-DO Editorial Board, held in conjunction with the annual session of the American Association of Orthodontists.

Lucete Fernandes Færøvig (Faerovig) holds a degree in Dental Medicine from the Faculty of Dental Medicine of the University of Lisbon (1989) and a specialization in Orthodontics from the University of Oslo (1994–1997), where she currently serves as Assistant Professor.

She has practiced exclusively in Orthodontics in Norway and Portugal since 1997 and has also conducted research as a Research Fellow at the University of Oslo. She is an Active Member of the Angle Society of Europe and a member of the Portuguese Society of Orthodontics and Dento-Facial Orthopedics (SPODF).
