SMD meeting discusses “issues of concern to the profession”

Today (June 29), the Escola Superior de Saúde do Porto hosted the IV Meeting of the Sindicato dos Médicos Dentistas and the III Odonto Summit. DentalPro attended the event and took the opportunity to speak to João Neto, president of the SMD, who stressed the importance of these moments for the profession to be united and fight for the good of the profession.

The meeting began with Jorge Silveira, from ANEMEDE, on “the fundamental role of defending practices”, with Cristina Mesquita on “common complaints/symptoms of the dentist in the musculoskeletal system and tools to minimize their effects”, and on “taxation and legal issues in the professional practice of dentists”. Also noteworthy were the workshop on Radiological Protection and Safety with APFISMED and the round table on the State of the Profession.

During the afternoon, the dentists had the opportunity not only to listen to the topics but also to debate them, clarify some doubts, and even “exercise”. At the coffee break, there was time for a poem to be recited by dentist Susana Traila.

According to the president of the SMD, all the topics at the event “are relevant, concern the profession, and need to be debated”. João Neto highlighted the III Odonto Summit, which “allows discussion to be opened up to all colleagues, allowing them to vent, give their opinion and ask questions”, noting that “many good things have come out of previous events”. For the SMD, it’s important that all colleagues registered and not registered with the Syndicate come together so that together we can find a way forward for the profession”.

João Neto took the opportunity to announce that a study on musculoskeletal symptoms in dentistry will begin with Professor Cristina Mesquita, and that the first issue of the Sindicato dos Médicos Dentistas magazine, produced by Editora CódigoPro, the owner of DentalPro magazine, will be presented to colleagues at this meeting. For the president of the SMD, this magazine “is important, it was an achievement and it will continue”.
