Running as the sole candidate in the election held on July 15, Paulo Melo has once again earned the confidence of the Council of Representatives of the Faculty of Dental Medicine of the University of Porto (FMDUP) to lead the institution’s future for another four years, between 2026 and 2030.
The inauguration ceremony, on July 23, took place in the Rectory’s Council Hall and was presided over by the Rector, Pedro Nuno Teixeira. The moment thus marked the beginning of a term in which Paulo Melo promises to reaffirm some of the strategic directions initiated when he was first elected, in May 2022. These include continuing to promote high-quality education, strengthening scientific research and innovation, consolidating the Faculty’s ties with society, and deepening national and international cooperation.
More recently, Paulo Melo presided over the celebrations of the 50th anniversary of the Dental Medicine program, an occasion on which he pointed to strengthening the range of academic programs and opening up to the international market as goals to be achieved by an institution presenting itself “with the ambition to grow.”
