Dentists António de Sousa, João Braga, João Pimenta, Nuno Ventura, Ricardo Rainha and Rui Paiva created the “Fazer Dentária” platform, with the main purpose of changing the course of the profession in Portugal. In an interview with DentalPro, they stated that “in this embryonic group everything is unequivocal and clear” and that they do not conspire in the “darkness of the feeble”. “What we have to say is available to anyone, and if someone calls us populists, unsuitable and ill-informed, we will answer with the freedom of those who owe nothing and who have an exemplary life at all levels. We only care about the dignity and defense of the ethical and professional high values. We are FAZER DENTÁRIA! And this group is everyone wish too change and make the change.”
Why did you decide to come together and create Fazer Dentária?
Because the current landscape worries us and we spontaneously converged in that worry. Contrarily to what some people think, we do not have or ever had a training strategy as a group. We will necessarily have an action strategy over time. We thought it was about time to say “enough!”.
As a matter of fact, you went from the verb “pensar” (to think) to “fazer” (to do). What have you already done to “ennoble and dignify the profession in Portugal”, as you state on your website?
The Fazer Dentária group has a medium term perspective of action. Things don’t easily come from nowhere. From our part, each one of us got involved in the academic life as students early on, be it on the respective student associations, course commissions or convention businesses. In recent times, we believe we can say that our action has stirred the interest of thousands of colleagues who we feel had been worried about the apathy that surrounds us. In the “Pensar” stage, the issues were identified. Today we find solutions to specific problems. We are fully aware that the situation is currently deteriorating but that it will have a solution. This is a time for motivation and reflection.
