We went to meet Raquel Zita, a Portuguese woman who is among the top 100 dentists in the world according to the 2020 World’s Top 100 Doctors. A woman in a profession “dominated” by men, who’s trademark colour is red, and wishes to inspire other female dentists.
“At first, I was surprised to be chosen, but then I felt very happy because there aren’t many Portuguese to be recognized in this kind of business and it’s always a way to validate our work. It’s a reflection of 18 years of dentistry, a lot of effort and work, not only in the clinic but also in research. I am 42 years old and finished my doctorate two years ago, it is a life dedicated to study. Anyone who knows me knows that I have fought hard to get to where I am. All I’ve achieved is thanks to my effort. To have been able to take on several degrees and, at the same time, be a mother, a woman and an entrepreneur, was a very great accomplishment. In a nutshell, this is a great recognition of my work, Portuguese dentistry and women’s dentistry”.
