Orlando Monteiro da Silva, President of the Ordem dos Médicos Dentistas (OMD), was unanimously elected President of FEDCAR – Federation of European Dental Competent Authorities and Regulators. It is an organisation that brings together orders, associations and other bodies that regulate, register and supervise dentistry.

Oral tumours are the sixth more common type of cancer in Portugal. However, it is still frequently forgotten and few Portuguese know that, similarly to breast cancer, there is also a self-exam that can help identifying lesions in due time.

The NGO Mundo A Sorrir (MAS) started the new year with a new board led by Mariana Dolores. Mariana Dolores is a dentist and is very optimistic in what concerns the future of the Organization.  

A multidisciplinary team from the Institute of Research and Innovation at the University of Porto (also known as i3S) and from the Faculties of Science, Technology and Medicine at the University of Coimbra developed a new technology based on a natural organic molecule, which prevents the formation of bacterial plaque, the main contributor to tooth decay and other dental pathologies.

Maria João Rodrigues, dentist and associate professor at the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Coimbra, was elected governor of the International College of Dentists (ICD) by Portugal.
